and take for granted how easy I have it here in Massachusetts.
Where are you located, Pete? It's very difficult to diagnose this
or give you advise because it sounds like you're in a completely
different world from me - seriously! A Saab engine is very easy
to come by here. The salvage yard shelves are literally full of them.
If I were to ever experience the problem you seem to have, I'd
drive no more than 5-10 km and pick-up a low mileage engine
for under $1000, maybe $750 (US). It wouldn't be worth it to me
to pull an engine, tear it apart, buy new parts, put it back together
and reinstall the engine. Also, there's no regulation in Massachusetts as to what kind of engine I can to put into any
vehicle - as long as the vehicle passes the bi-yearly emissions
test. If you're in a country where there's very few Saabs, then I
guess you're at the mercy of this particular Saab dealer. It's been
my experience that whenever I had an engine that made a loud
bang, it was never a good sign. Post back on Monday after the
dealer has opened up the engine and let us know what he finds.......
good luck!
