Also, though not a requirement, it's a very good idea to get a new wiring harness and a couple relays for the headlights. This is even a good idea if you stick with the stock lights and bulbs, at least for 1987, as that year runs the full headlight current through the switch on the steering column.

The difference between the E-spec and DOT lights, is that the pattern cutoff on the E-spec is sharp and extremely well defined, and the illumination within the pattern is uniform. They really are a BIG improvement over the DOT spec lights. But be warned, the are pricey. Lowest I have seen them in about $400 for a pair, not including the bulbs or harness. You can spend another $60 on a harness and bulbs, easy.
