I'm using Audax fiberglass woofers up front, with Nakamichi tweeters. The sound is good, but in the future I'd like to replace with less bright sounding items - probably Peerless poly cone woofers and Vifa tweeters. That's neither here nor there...
There have been many a discussion on the weakness of the front woofage in the 9000. I haven't yet heard of anyone who's gotten bigger woofers up front in their 9000, but if anyone has, that's a big step in the right direction! I am not willing to cut into the doors myself. I thought of the dash option, but now I have a gauge pod mounted on the dash, so no room for a center mounted woofer anymore. Even if that weren't there, it may require some rerouting/crushing of the center HVAC ducts in order to fit a larger than 5.25" woofer magnet structure in the center of the dash.
The sky is the limit if you want to go crazy on cutting holes or creating custom boxes to fit up front, but the sound is good enough for me as is.
I'm thinking about a center channel too, but it will likely be a 4" coaxial at largest, and I'm thinking of mounting it in the trapezoidal cubby in the bottom of the dash. I'll have an actual surround sound processor to complement it, though..
