I have always thought it might be the bearings in the fan. When I turn the car off, and the fan slowly turns to a complete stop, I can hear it squeaking. But the fact that it only happens when under load (as well as increases in pitch) made me think it was a vacuum leak also. But I could not find any vacuum lines in that area, and I definitely know it's coming from the blower fan.

Will wait with bated breath for what the dealer has to say. This has been a problem since January when it was still under warranty. Now that it is March, and the problem has not been resolved and the car is no longer under warranty, they claim to be doing the work out of Goodwill. I have a feeling they will avoid replacing the blower motor at all costs because of this.
