The 9000 converts very well to r134a. However, the conversion must be done correctly or long term problems will result.

The first choice is whether or not you want to do it yourself. If no, then find an independent ac shop to do the conversion. You will save a significant amount of money if you buy the receiver/drier and expansion valve from one of the sponsors and give it to the shop to install for you. Other than that, just let them do it. Any kind of kit would be nothing more than valve adapters and some o-rings, which is about $10 worth of parts.

If you want to do it yourself, then you need to spend some money on tools. First, you need a gauge set, which is around $100 on the internet (I use http://www.acsource.com). You will also need a vacuum pump. I have the kind that is driven by an air compressor, but the stand alone units are better, if more expensive.

There is an excellent write-up on the Townsend site on doing the conversion. I absolutely agree with Townsend that you must replace the receiver/drier and expansion valve. I diverge on a couple of points. I only flush once, in one direction, and I don't bother with the vacuum cleaner. Also, I put the oil into the compressor before I close the system up, so I don't have to bother with an oil injector. Please also note that the Townsend write up says to charge through the high side. That only applies if you are charging with the car NOT RUNNING. If there is any chance of the compressor starting, ONLY CHARGE THROUGH THE LOW SIDE.
