Hi
I have had this done by an independent mobile ac specialist on a '89 9000 Carlsson and more recently a '92 9000 CSE 2.3T auto. Both had leaks, traced by filling the system with Nitrogen to 150psi (Which makes the leaks much easier to detect and you are not pumping refridgerant into the atmosphere). Both systems had a failing condenser bottom RHS connector and pipework that entailed a replacement condensor (which isn't an aluminium/steeel mix as the salt on the roads gets the original ones after 10+ years).
Both systems were converted to R134a after vacuuming the system, new oil in the compressor and charge of R134a. Both systems were checked out and running efficiently. The receiver/drier was not changed in either case as they were working correctly. The physical changes are the 2 connectors on the compressor (so that the conversion to R134a is obvious). Any connections that are disturbed have a new (light green in clouor) o-ring fitted.
