Help !
After sitting idle in garage 2 weeks , I knew the wife wanted to use the Saab (86 9KT) this AM so I put the charger on for 24 Hrs but today it won't even turn over .
The battery seems OK , the specific gravity of most cells is in the green although 1 is a little on the low side . My digital multimeter shows 11 point something volts and the headlights come on nice and bright although they dim to almost nothing when I attempt to crank the engine .
Strange thing is : I do not even hear the "click" of the starter solenoid but there is a sort of whirring noise from the rear (the fuel pump ?) and when I release the key from "start mode" back to "ign on mode" the lights on the automatic climate control begin to flash off an on to the accompaniment of a relay clicking somewhere .
The car was running fine 2 weeks ago after I completed some work on the electrical system .(Oh Oh !!). Attempting to repair a non cancelling direction switch I broke a blade connector off the unit and had to change my wiring around so my direction lights , like the hazard lights , work from the same fuse and will operate without the ign switch being on . Is this a no no ? or has my starter solenoid packed up on it own volition ?
