Spark plugs Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 93 9000 issues, peter ![]() ![]() |
I'm not sure which opinions you've read are mixed on spark plugs, but the only plug for your car is the NGK. You most probably have Direct Ignition, and the DI uses the spark plug as a knock sensor. This means the plug has to be the EXACT RIGHT plug. For a long time only NGK made a plug that would work with the DI. Recently Bosch began producing a plug that would work with the DI, different part numbers depending if it's the turbo or not.
I've tried the Bosch plug in a non-turbo DI-equipped 9000 ('92). It worked fine, but I saw no advantage. I went back to the NGKs.
Some folks have found non-NGK plugs to work. I don't think anyone has found a non-NGK plug to work better. And many folks have found non-NGK plugs to cause lots of problems.
Stick with the NGKs specified in the manual, gapped per the manual.
