I suppose it depend on where you live and how you like to drive. My '90 9000s (yup...s) auto, 2.3, Jetronic, cloth, is almost my perfect car. (I've had 26) It has 150hp, which is respectable and not too much less than an older 900turbo would deliver. Because its auto, and 9000, and non-turbo, it never had the crap driven out of it, (who would bother)and living in a non-salt environment, it has no rust, looks great. The trunk-model is my favorite. The hatchback is useful, (had one) but quite frankly, its ugly. My kids say all Saabs are ugly, and I have to agree that it takes a certain type of individual to appreciate one. I lost my love for manual transmissions around my 20th car. Even though I don't have the turbo, (wouldn't mind one) it goes fast, and handles like a dream. To me, the right year is around '90ish as its pre-TCS. The bonus is that S models are much less expensive to buy, and usually haven't been "driven". If I could have my "dream" car, it would probably be a Griffen.
good luck
