And if you feel comfortable doing your own repairs, by all means have at it! I would do more if I could, but with the mileage on my car, there have been a LOT of repairs. I either did not have the facilities or proper tools to work on my car, or what needed doing was just something I didn't feel comfortable trusting myself to do (this being my only car). I do what I can, which is mostly electrical and brake work. The other stuff, I leave to the pros.
Everything is expensive here... supposedly it's one of the reasons Boeing moved their HQ to Chicago. The fact that auto shop labor costs seem to be universally high, leads me to believe that King County (greater Seattle area) is taxing the hell out of folks and insurance is skyrocketing, etc..
Shoot, even my own personal auto insurance went up 10% last year for no other reason than increased traffic congestion, and the company claimed that was only a small fraction of the actual increase, and they absorbed the rest. Though, that is a really sketchy explanation from my point, seeing how THEY are the ones that set the rates for their customers. I could be way off there though, maybe it's a conspiracy and the state/federal government is secretly in charge of insurance agencies..
:)
