Thanks Dr. Boost. Yes, it's the 50 mm thick intercooler. Presently,
I suspect a leak somewhere on the high pressure side. After removing
the stock intercooler, I haven't been able to visually locate any cracks on the plastic end-tanks. I had been running boost pressure close to 21 psi, but lately, the peak had been around 18-19 psi. I haven't tested the
DI, nor the BPC solenoid, my plugs are less than a few months old
(they're gapped close to .9 mm) and my bypass valve is a piston type.
I don't think my problem is in the APC control or ignition - I suspect
that there's a leak, somewhere, on the high pressure side of the turbo.
When stock intercoolers leak, do they leak from cracks in the plastic
end-tanks or do they leak from the gasket that seals the plastic to the
aluminum? My only other idea is that one of the rubber hoses is the
culprit, so I'll replace all of them. Is there a simple way to locate
high pressure leaks from the turbo to the throttle body? And what about
any of the other smaller diameter hoses that run into the intake manifold -
map sensor, evaporative cannister, BPV & pressure gauge, etc. - can a 'minor' failure in any of these hoses cause a drop in peak boost?
