Hi, I modified the air box of my -94 CSE FPT by removing the snorkel and drilled 7 pc 1.5" holes in the lid. I also installed a K&N drop in filter element. The net effect in horse power is practically zero. With a little bit of imagination I could/can (?) see a 5 hp increase in the upper register. The engine feels a bit more harsh and the intake noise is quite annoying, especially at low revs and high boost.
So as Dr Boost said on the Perf BB, the stock air box is not as bad as some people claim.
I'm now back with the OEM set up. Didn't try to modify the intake pipe, though.
I guess the best way to access the air box is to remove the plastic panel beneath it (under the car).
Regards,
Tapani
