Well, I have driven multiple 9k's both turbo and non turbo of the 2.3l. My current driver is a 91 NA. Around town the NA is mostly fine - I only notice a lack of power with the car loaded and the AC on, even then it's no worse than most of the cars out there. On the gas mileage question expect worse mileage in the NA. The reason for this is that the transmission is geared shorter in the NA to make the car quicker. On the highway this effect is the greatest - the NA will be turning 500+ rpms more at any given speed and this hammers the mileage pretty hard. I get about 26mpg around town and 28mpg at 70mph on the highway. If buying another I would take a turbo of the cost was similar but would not be afraid of an NA.
