More on CV boots (attn. Robert Kaplan)

First, Robert, since you've BTDT, how did you get the axel back into the outer joint? I couldn't spread the snap ring and get things ligned up properly. I forget the details, but I ended up getting so damned mad that I just poised the tapered end of the axel against the snap ring and kicked the hub to force the ring open and the axel into the joint. It's a wonder I didn't kick the car off the stands, I was so frustrated. It worked fine, but took a few tries because of the awkwardness of it all. There must be a better way.
Re Bob Davis' premature boot failures on his '95 Aero ... First, you guys who are getting 150 K miles out of your boots, where do you live? Heaven? What model year are your cars? Owners of 94 and later 9000's: How many miles are you getting on boots? Anders says the later cars have beefier joints. Are the boots larger diameter? If so, are they the same length? If so, wouldn't the stubbier aspect ratio make the boots flex through larger angles? (The answer to that is "yes"). Could that be the reason for earlier failure on later model boots?
