Hello all, So this fool in a PASSAT ran a stop sign while taking a left right on top of me as I was cruising the right lane of Memorial Drive before JFK St. in Camridge, MA. I braked as soon as I saw him but he turned into my lane rather than the inside one and I was close enough that I had to really hit the brakes, my back end swung out left for some reason and I went skidding perpendicular to the road, my front right skidding along the curb as I slid to a stop. The car stalled and the Passat was at the light at JFK before I pulled up on him. The guy said "I looked but didn't see you because of the glare, so I just went". Well anyway, after totally screwing up and not calling the police (first accident, stupid kid, me), I'm not confident I'll get much from his insurance due to lack of police report. So, I'm interested in what this might mean for my 89' 9K CD w/ 150K mi. In addition to my right front rim and tire being chewed up, the worst part is that in order to drive straight to get home I had to hold the wheel at between 2 and 3 o'clock, and the steering feels quite loose. Under the car there is no sign of damage but I'm not skilled with cars, so can anyone recommend a shop I can take this to in the Boston area? I'll take the wheel off tomorrow but even if I see something obviously wrong I won't know how to fix it. I just got my car this winter and it's been great. I know a good Indy but they're in Northern VT, so I'm afraid to drive it there. Anyway, this really sucks but as I was skidding sideways I was well aware that had I been in an SUV I would be flipping, so... thank you to my SAAB and all's well that ends well, etc. Hopefully I'll be able to say the same about my car...
