There is an old saw about mixing - changing brands of oil, let alone types! Let this be a warning to those that fall prey to the oil elixir promotors. There is a third way to proceed since you have already removed a fair portion of the crud. A little more conservative approach would have you changing the filter frequently and inspecting them for debri. Adding a can of your favorite engine cleaner just before an oil and filter change may help dissolve deposits on the screen and elsewhere. Add the cleaner to a hot engine and let it idle for half hour while monitoring the oil light and lifter noise. Don't race the engine or the filter will bypass. Drain the oil and change the filter. You can do this this immediately, idle the engine til warm then proceed as above. Install an oil pressure gauge while all this is going on to make sure the pressure dosn't go - insn't too low. Oil pressure should be at least 10 PSI at idle. It appears the screen mesh may be a little too fine on these cars.
