It may not be actually overheating! Temperature gauges vary a bit in calibration, and/or the temp. sending unit could be bad.
Way to tell is warm the engine up until the gauge gets to the same reading, then use a thermometer of some sort to check the cylinder head temp near the water outlet (where the thermostat is). If it's in the 180-200 degree (F) range, it's normal. Anything above 210 probably merits worrying...
