On my '96, the reflectors of the foglights had corroded and I found the same pricing that you did when I checked into replacing them. What I did instead was that I removed the units, cut away enough of the housing to remove the reflectors which gave me enough room to squeeze a pair of the small rectangular dichronic fogs that you can get at places like PepBoys or AutoZone. Despite having to shine thru the existing lens of the original units (so you still have that problem if you want to retain the stock appearance), they actually don't work to bad (probably as good or slightly better than the OEM setup). They are not the greatest quality lamps but I didn't want to go PIAA even though they have a unit that will work because of the price for something that might not have worked. If you are interested in going that route, check out the PIAA Web site. Roughly speaking you are looking for a unit that has dimensions including the mount of 2.5 in wide, 2.0 inches high, and 3.o inches deep (all more or less).
I've used this set up now for a couple of months. If it continues to function as it is, I might consider the higher quality PIAA units; but in any event its definitely a decent work-around if your stock units are corroded or not what you need output wise.
