First of all, you lose a lot of torque through moving/lifting the engine so you might want to jam something into the space between the motor mount and its limiting bracket to prevent the engine from lifting.
The way to apply the most torque is to come at it from above the engine and, as Quasi suggested, use a cheater pipe to extend your torque radius to about 3 ft. Then, have a helper jam the flywheel with a screwdriver. I found that the easiest way to prevent the screwdriver from slipping was to clamp the screwdriver handle with a set of vice-grips to give you (or your helper) extra leverage for holding it in place.
When my friend Roman and I removed his crank pulley bolt recently, we only were able to remove it by using the technique described above, and then literally "bouncing" the engine with the wrench so that the instantaneous torque far exceeded that which we were capable of producing with constant pressure from our own strength.
That bolt was on there REALLY tight!
Good Luck.
