I have a 90 9000T 5-spd with 117k on it (for sale btw) that has been our family car for the past 7 years. Overall a pretty good car, but here are some things to be aware of?
1.DI cassette had to be done- not uncommon
2 clutch master went out, ended up doing the whole thing, enture clutch job was about $1200 as trans must come out.
3. Bleed the brakes... I did not, had to replace front caliper
4. Exhaust seem to be short lived, I am on 2nd Bosal and its shot. Easier to do than C900 tho, due to different joints.
5. Use good rotors if you replace them... resurfaced ones lead to trouble (warpage). How do I know this? : )
6. ACC system works fine, but that blower fan... mine quit. I did the job myself, so replaced fan and heater core, as it was recommended. BIG job, hard on your back, but worth it! Wife is happy again.
7. 90 turbos are the odd ones with DI but not balance shaft, which I prefer, and why I bought it. I have not been disappointed. All I have to do is the serp belt and forget it.
8. Alternators are hard to get at, hard to see with one hidden bolt. Had mine rebuilt recently.
9. Oil filter on this engine is hard to get at, but with new smaller filters and the right tool, its much easier.
10. The shift linkage thing went on mine- the rubber coupling. Another pain, but easy to fix, even "in the field".
11. Lower door rust is a problem if you do not keep up with it. I do and its not too bad, but take the door panels out to check it. Bad window seals allow moisture in. I hit 2 of my doors with POR-15 to prevent further problems.
12. The power door locks are same as C900... replaced 2 of mine, been fine for years!
13. Pictogram can drive you nuts re; the bulbs. Nice for headlights, but if you get a slightly different bulb in the tail, it will stay on.
Let me know if you have further Q's. Overall we like the car, but bought a NG900 as it was time for a new car. Jim lamanjim@juno.com
