I have a '95 9000CS, 110K miles, well maintained (dealer) and garaged. In January I left it outside overnight because of a fuel line problem. It was cold. When I started it the next morning I got a lot of smoke out the tailpipe. Ever since then, I occasionally get the smoke. It is NOT condensation. It is grayish, and does not dissipate right away. I can't say if it is oil, or coolant, or something else. I have tried to smell it (carefully!), but.... Here are my observations:

- It only happens on the first start in the morning, after the car has sat overnight.
- It seems to happen on cold mornings (this is a recent observation, perhaps under 45 degrees). The car is outside now, and it is happening more frequently.
- Sometimes it will happen two mornings in a row, and then not again for a month.
- I can leave the car sitting for two or three days and it is fine (no smoke).
- I have not noticed anything leaking under the car, nor does it appear to be losing coolant or oil.
- The car runs smoothly, everything seems fine, it passed a recent emissions test.
- Here's the different part - the engine idles too fast (around 1500 rpm, I think) for about 10-15 seconds while the smoke comes out. The engine runs fine otherwise. Normally the idle jumps up, then returns to normal idle (900-1000 rpm) right away.

Any ideas? I want to sell the car, but can't do it with a clear conscience. I hesitate to take the car to the dealer because they most likely will not be able to reproduce the problem (already tried once). I want to fix the problem before I sell it (otherwise the car is perfect), but I don't want to have it misdiagnosed and end up spending thousands of dollars. Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks,
SW
