... it might have no boost gauge because it has no boost!
Another good way to tell is by looking for a boost control solenoid valve. I don't know whether you're familiar with them from the 900 (slightly different shape in the 9000, though). On the full-pressure turbos, it sits atop the radiator on the left-hand side (driver's side, if you're in the US, passenger side here in the UK) and has a cable connected to it and three rubber hoses running down to the turbo. If you lift the bonnet and look at the radiator and it doesn't hit you in the face, it isn't a full-pressure turbo.
