I've never seen it hit 9:00 and I'd be alarmed if I did. I'm on my second engine (bit of a bang, unfortunately) and on this engine I've replaced the coolant and thermostat. It was dealer-serviced before the bang and I'd be surprised if the thermostat wasn't replaced by the dealer along the line.
I know it doesn't get warm in the UK by US standards, but even in temperatures of 28 deg. C or more (over 80 deg. F) I haven't seen the gauge get as far as 9:00.
My '90 2.3 CDT used to go higher than that in traffic on hot days, but that had one of the "honest" gauges that gave it to you straight. My Aero, in common with other 9000s of later vintage, has the gauge that constantly re-assures you that everything's OK and you really don't need to know what the actual coolant temperature is...
