Yeah, they can last a good while, but still, how often do you change blower motors in other cars? For an upscale car, this motor should not be an issue, especially since it's such a pain in the ass to change. And the main thing that bugs me about it is that it cannot be effectively rebuilt. The contrsuction is cheap: It's stamped together instead of screwed together; the brushes are not engineered in a way that is meant for them to be changed; and the commutator gets destroyed over time. If it were easy to change and cost $40 or so, I would be a lot more forgiving. As it is, though, Saab should have been mortified a long time ago, and they should have upgraded the motor in 94 when they upgraded everything else. I love 9000's ... but there are some stupid, cheap things about them that probably keep them from completely dominating the sports luxury market. You don't dominate a market by becoming known as trouble-prone. How you can have a turbocharged tank engine and a lousy blower motor and heater core is beyond me!
