First off, thanks for the tips earlier. I really appreciate it.

I'm looking to do this conversion myself, so all advice is very welcomed!

I have dropped trannys before (auto TH350 from a '75 Camaro and '75 Malibu (RWD), manual trans from an '87 Pulsar and '87 Sentra (FWD)), and these were all done in the dirt of my driveway with the car up on blocks/jackstands.

I'm assuming the 9K will be no different, as far as dropping the tranny since I've been there before. The only difference is that I'm changing the style of the trans from auto to manual. Yes, big difference.

But the idea of having the donor car nearby is very good. If I can't get one, then I'll have to scrounge around for the parts individually.

Questions:

Does the trans come out and go in from the bottom? After reading a manual (Chilton) on doing this, it states that the engine and trans must come out together. But they've said that about other cars that I was able to just drop the trans out of without removing the engine also.

While I'm into all of this, what other parts should I look into being replaced (besides the manual trans-specific parts)? I'm planning on installing a JT 3" complete exhaust, as well as a re-mapped ECU around the same time. I would like to track down a Mitsu turbo from an Aero or '98 CSET, but I'm finding zilcho on that.

Anymore ideas and help would be great!!!!

BTW: my auto has only 10K on it (was replaced 9 months ago), so am I crazy to look to do this? Should I just wait until the slushbox dies and then do the conversion? From all of the talk from the fun the M/T drivers are having, I'm bitten by the bug to have one as well. I am definitely doing the exhaust and ECU swap, however...

Joe
