I was told by an ex-distributor of the piston-style BPV's that they have been known to damage the intercooler since the extra built-up pressure sometimes makes its way to that component. He did say that it was documented in race cars, but that there was no reason this couldn't happen to a commuter car. He since has dropped them from his line of goods because of that reason.
I posted a similar question last week about this, and people answered stating that the stock oem BPV does a pretty good job, and any extra performance gains to be had from a piston-style (Forge) BPV were minimal. Only real thing to gain is durability, since extra pressure eventually damages the stock diaphragm-style BPV, whereas the piston-style can handle it.
