Oil, and then there's oil. Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: No power and missing at low end, Glenn Cover, Mon, 20 May 2002 12:45:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The DI consists of four oil-filled plastic tubes that contain cooling oil, and that whole assembly is covered with yet another plastic cover with four tubes.
You might be seeing oil leaking from the coils, OR, you might just be seeing engine oil that has seeped from an old, tired valve cover gasket.
Flip the DI over, so the tubes are pointing up in the air. You'll see some Torx screws - take them out, and lift off the plastic cover. You'll see a circuit board and four white translucent plastic tubes. Check those for cracks, shine a light through to see if one or more is low on oil. That's the oil you're concerned about.
It's very common for the valve cover gasket to weep oil into the spark plug well, and you'll see that oil and mistake it for DI oil.
Of course, your problem may still be the DI.
