Roaring/howling with speed- rear bearings?

Hi,
I need sone opinions on diagnosing a noise problem. I recently bought an 86 9kT and just finished replacing the right hub/bearing assembly to fix a roaring sound that got worse when you right turn or wheight on the left side. Now that sound is gone, but now I hear another roaring sound that gets worse with speed (I probably couldn't hear it over the other bearing noise) This sound doesn't increase when turning right or left.
Is it possible for the rear bearings to give a roaring noise?

Here are the symptoms when driving over 60kmh:
Level ground: R or L turn - no increase or decrease in noise
Downhill: Sound gets less when braking but immediately gets louder when you release brake.
Uphill: Sound disappears when right turn, gets worse when left.

DO the rear bearings need repacking? I don't want to shell out the $$$ for the other front bearing.
