Replacing EDU Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: '89 9kT EDU not working, Rod ![]() |
To replace the EDU, you need to remove the top of the dashboard, and lift up the instrument panel. See Quasi's site and/or Townsend for instructions on how to remove the dashboard top. Takes about 20 minutes. Follow the instructions for replacing the EDU bulbs.
The EDU just pops in and out, after you've moved all the claptrap. It's just a circuit board with the display on it. There is a very good possibility that the connector has come loose, and that will fix it. I've had to repair only 1 EDU in my day. There is a diode on the board where the power comes in - this diode has blown open. Solder in new diode, good as new.
If you don't have experience in electronics, just plan on replacing the EDU. I would try junkyards, or some of the Saab wreckers, like GoldWing. I'll make a guess (only a guess) that a used EDU will run about $75.
Except for a few bulbs, and the one bad diode, I've never had any EDU problems.
Good luck!
