I also had sloppy bearings on a 99 that made the brakes feel spongy. The pads got pushed away from the rotor and it took a lot of pedal to get everything realigned. The ABS sounds normal to me.
The system should be bled every two years. Bet it has been longer. Allows H2O to accumulate. That turns to steam and rust at the calipers. At 74k, my 87's rotors had more than 1/2 life left. If your's do, then you can get new pads front and rear for less than $60. eEuroparts or Sabstory should be able to get you PBR Deluxes for that price. I think they are at least as good as OEM, and much less dusty. Replacing the pads will give you a good look at the calipers, which may be rusty from the fluid.
With luck, the bleed and good pads will be all you need. By the way, some aftermarket pads just don't do well on Saabs. I had PBR metalmasters on wife's Aero, and thought I was going to sail on through the 1st few intersections on cold mornings. They are excellent pads, but not for our purposes. And they felt 'spongy'.
