Some SAAB compressors came with a thermal protection switch. It is located on the body of the compressor and is easily recognizable since it is the only location where two wires are connected at a single location on the unit. SAAB only had this thermal protection only for a short while, and I'm not sure what years on the 9K this applies to so I can't say for sure if this relates to your car. (It is not on my '96 AEROs or '90T.)
In any event, the switch can be replaced without depressuring the system. However, if you have one, it may just be acting as intended, to protect the compressor from overheating through hard operation sitting directly above the exhaust side of the turbo.
