ok, I have now driven this new SAAB almost a week with a spongy brake pedal. today I flushed all the fluid out using a pressurized bleeder(25psi). the fluid is now crystal clear and to my amazement it seems to have cured the problem. I have a good solid pedal. I also figured out the deal with this 74k mile '88 9KS. At BMW we regularly see late 80s 325s etc. with unbelievable low mileage in mint condition, in for service. Here in Southwest Florida New Englanders and Canadians tend to come down during the winter months and most of them also own homes here where they keep their second car. usually an older one which over the years of being used four months out of the year averg. 5k miles they remain intact. but in the case of deglected brake fluid flushes on ABS systems the fluid turns to 'mud' and clogges the solenoid valves and pump motors. thats my theory.
