Chris,
I fear the dealer may be "dummying up" more than you think. If the engine has been damaged, no amount of oil pressure will reverse it. Bearing damage can also get worse over time, even when the condition that provoked it is fixed. I've had it happen myself.
It's been a long time since I priced a junkyard engine, and they tend to vary. If you're lucky with the right place, you might pay $750. A place that knows a little better what Saabs cost might want $1500.
Here's what I'd do. Grab the yellow pages and get a couple prices from local junkyards. There are also a few used Saab parts outfits that sponsor this website, call them too.
Then, without telling them what you found out, ask the dealer to give you a quote for installing a junkyard motor. This should tell you something about how honest they're being. If they're feeling guilty or sorry for you, they may give you a surprisingly good price! Or not...
