I assume when you are talking about temperatures, you mean pressures at psi.

You should see pressures in the range of 25-30 on the low side and 150 (psi) or more on the high side, depending on ambient temperature. If the compressor is cycling about every 2 seconds, so that the high side only gets to 60 before it cuts out, I would suspect a low charge. It is hard to tell, though, if the compressor won't run long enough to get a real reading. How much r12 did you add? Was it working at all before you added it? Usually takes at least 1 can on an empty system to get the compressor running steadily.


It could be the anti-frost switch, but from what I have seen here, it looks like when they go bad, they go all the way bad. I wonder if it's possible to jump the connector to test it, or if the system is looking for a specific voltage. My guess would be it's an on or off switch.

Another possible culprit is the actual pressure switch attaced to the receiver/drier. This is the switch that actually controls cycling. I have never seen it reported here that a pressure switch failed.
