Fan switch quick-connector nightmare - need radiator

Tried to help a friend with a NA, AT '92 last night. He complained of over-heating - indicated that the fan wasn't going on. I figured easy job - most likley the switch failed, especially since no blown fuse was found and fan wasn't seized.
Here's where it gets ugly - tried to get the quick connector off - didn't budge. Tried pulling, twisting, and then larger and larger tools, with less finese involved. When suddenly I see coolant leaking - the plastic end-tank had cracked around the switch bung - damn - and the "quick" connector is still attached!!!
Questions...
1) How the hell does this connector come off this thing?!
2) I happen to have a brand new 87'C Saab switch for 900 - I believe the 9000 uses a 2-speed switch (3-wire), but I'd just as soon hack the quick connector off and go low-tech with a couple crimped female spade connectors. Which two wires do I want for hi-speed and ground? Sorry if I've offended the preservationists, but this one isn't going to Pebble Beach, I can assure you :-).
3) Where's the best place to get a new radiator cheap?
Thanks,
Brad
