But there's one part I don't get. You say you have an '86 instrument cluster, saying, correctly, that the speedometers are not compatible. How then did you hook this one up, and why would you expect it to work even if you could? To my knowledge, '86 uses a mechanical cable to drive the speedometer, not electrical signal.
Also, and I believe this applies to all years, if you let the speedo sender dry for too long (ie the needle is bouncing around), the gauge can and will eventually break.
