Losing Oil - Turbo Seals?

Hi Everyone,
My car - 1987 9000 SE Turbo Automatic (UK)- has always had a small leak in the vicinity of the turbocharger; not really enough to worry about. I think that its probably a problem with the oil input or output pipes (oil-cooled turbo). I have tried tightening the couplings, bolts etc. with no real improvement.
Anyway the real problem that I have right now is that my car seems to be losing excessive amounts of oil and I'm not sure how exactly this is happening. There are usually a few drops left on the ground after a drive - particularly if I have been driving hard.
Sometimes on the motorway when I boost hard I'm sure I can see smoke (hazy blue?) coming out of the exhaust. On journeys of 300 miles or more I can lose several pints of oil.
I had a compression test done recently and one of the cylinders is down to about 2/3 of normal. The "wet" test did not improve this significantly which would appear to eliminate worn piston rings and blow-by. I don't think the head gasket is at fault since I,m not losing coolant, no white smoke and the coolant itself smells OK.
I suspect that when driving hard I might be losing oil via the turbo itself. Is this possible? I still get good boost into the start of the red.
Can anyone explain what might be happening?
I could probably drive the car more sedately but you don't buy a dog and then bark yourself.
Any assistance much appreciated as always.
STEVE
