HELP! T40 bit on AC compressor bolts keeps bending

Hi All,
I thought I was in the final stretch today. Had all the items for a compressor replacement and 134 conversion and was looking forward to a cool next week in the car. Started off with getting the old compressor off with a T40 bit on a long wrench (5/8" I believe).
Even soaked in WD-40 the thing would just not budge at all. In fact it bent all two of my T40 bits on the tip flanges. My question is: shitty tools or common for the torx stuff.
So, how do you get these things off aside from driving down to your local shop to loosen them? Also, for an 88 9KT, how many bolts do you have to take off? It seems the AC pulley is attached to the lower three. Do those all have to come out as well, or can you just move the water line out and pull the whole thing with just the top 2 undone?
Many thanks in advance!
Marc
