As '94 Aero says, dealers have access to repair histories of any car that has come through a Saab dealership.
If we make the assumption that the dealer is telling the truth ( a stretch, I know), then it would indicate the car HADN'T had any service at an authorized dealer. Not necessarily a bad sign, but not a good one.
I agree, this car has great potential to be a fright pig. If the previous owner didn't address the little things (broken lenses, missing antenna), you must assume that other regular maintenance, like oil and coolant changes, brake fluid flushes, etc., are also missing.
If they left the big things go - bald tires being pretty big - you have to assume they were trying to drive the car into the ground. Or at least, for the last year or two of ownership, they didn't want to put any money into the car. Bad sign.
