Those wires go thru the wiring harness on the engine, thru the
firewall (pins 7 & 8 on the round 24-pin connector) and into the
speedometer. Looks like you'll have to remove the top dash cover
to get at them. First, take both speaker covers off the dash - there's
three small torx head screws holding them on. Then, there's two
other small torx head screws, one on the side and one at the top,
that are exposed once the speaker covers are off. There's also
a small 8mm screw at the front, near the windsheild, that you'll
need a swivel to get at. Finally, there's two other torx screws -
one is at the top right hand side of the instrument panel cavity and
the other is behind a small rubber plug at the top left hand side
of the open glove compartment (if you have a '94 or newer, it's
under the SRS badge). The dash can now be lifted at the front.
Look in and you'll see one of the temperature sensors for the ACC
(the round black hemisphere that sticks up from the middle of the
dash). You have to turn the rectangular plastic piece about 45º
and the sensor will fall out from the bottom. Disconnect the little
clips that hold the cable to the bottom of the dash and the dash
can be pulled away from the back clip and lifted out of the car.
The top connector on the speedometer is the one you want. It's
kind of tight back there, but you may be able to get it off without
taking the instrument panel out.
