I disagree that what you have is "normal" after 80K, or even 100K. Changing the fluid is possibly a stopgap measure that MIGHT buy you some time. Quite simply, you are risking a road break down with the transmission in the shape evidenced by the shrapnel on the magnet. Only you can judge how much risk you can afford to take.
The SAAB transmission manual is very clear on this subject. "...if the fluid strainer contains 'swarf' (Swedish term?), change or repair the transmission."
The orifices in the valve body and the clutch pressure channels are much smaller than the pieces of metal on your magnet. Furthermore, the seals are viton rubber and are subject to cutting with metal filings. While the filter and magnet will screen out some of the debris, depending on the point of origin, some eventually winds up in critical systems.
As for rebuilding, as far as I know, the price will be the same regardless of the condition of the internals and any damage should be confined to the transmission. Personally, if I were buying a rebuild, the ONLY place I would consider is Eriksson Industries.
