knock sensor cutting boost

is what the problem with my boost is:or so i've been told. I use the highest available octane rating available over here (so I would doubt it is knock occuring), I have ben told by a specialist that I have some engine noise (crank rumbling or balancer shafts noisy). But someone else has said this is rubbish. The car has 100k on it, full history (genuine - phoned a couple of the dealers to check car was serviced) - previous owner - well looked after he saab enthusiast (he has 3 saabs amongst other 'nice' cars).
Who do I believe? How can I tell myself if it Is the crank rumbling?
Or the balancer shafts? Can you tell?
Can I just unplug the knok sensor to double check it is reducing boost and not something else?or do I need to remove it from block and wrap in rags - this would be hell - I can't fit my arms behind from above/below engine - is it possible to do it someother way?
Advice much appreciated - worried I bought a lemon, even tho' it was checked out by a couple of knowledgable saab owners -
