Well, like I said last time, this theory gets thrown around whenever a mechanic gets really frustrated. It seems to me like it's the frustrated mechanic's way of saying "they are all like that" in a situation where that line won't work.
It could be the knock sensor, the intake air sensor, the boost pressure control valve, the hooter valve, fuel delivery, the ECU, the API box, the DI cassette....you get the picture.
Here is the priority list from the DI/APC manual for low boost:
1. brake light switch
2. Cruise control
3. Boost pressure control valve
4. Knock sensor
5. Intake system
6. Wiring Harness
7. Spark plugs/DI Cassette
8. Turbo/Waste gate rod
9. Diaphram Unit (I believe this is the hooter valve)
10. Exhaust/catalytic converter
11. Basic engine
12. Intake air sensor
For jerkiness on acceleration:
1. Spark plugs
2. Fuel system
3. DI Cassette
4. Wiring Harness, etc.
There is one reference in the manual to engine noise effecting the knock sensor, but it's not on page 1 of the book. The book does say that the knock sensor is sensitive to corrosion on the connector and the torque it's screwed in. You might want to buy the manual, I got the part no. off Quasi's site.
