Having a 2.3LPT, you already know that 170hp doesn't tell the whole story and that the torquey character of Saab's turbocharged engines carries its own advantages. According to my '95 handbook, you are getting 260Nm (191lbft) of torque at a pretty revvy 3200RPM, while the '95 200hp full-pressure 2.3 was producing 323Nm (238lbft) of torque from 1800RPM, which is just above idle!
I don't know whether you've ever had the opportunity to drive a 2.3 full-pressure turbo, but I can't help thinking that this is something you might want to try...
The above is for the manual, though (you don't say whether your car is auto or manual). The torque on the 2.3T autos was limited to what ZF told Saab the auto box could take (297Nm or 218lbft and they got it wrong anyway, hence the plethora of reports of auto box failure around 100K miles).
