My '96 Aero belonged to Saab Contract Hire (a UK company, probably a subsidiary of Saab) for the first three years of its life. I am the second owner. All indications are that Saab Contract Hire managed the Saab-dealer servicing of the car and the hirer (a company director) just drove it (a lot - putting up 112K miles in three years). The BPC valve is probably original. Not only is there a restrictor in one of the pipes (can't remember which), another of them is also "drilled out". It looks just as if someone has passed a drill along it to enlarge it. This wasn't the case on the one Bill Davies lent me some time ago. The performance difference is real and was very obvious.
If all BPC valves are exactly the same, I can't think why they have different letters stamped on them. My Aero valve has, if I remember correctly, "XF" stamped on it. I can't remember now whether I have actually seen one with no brass restrictor in it, but the "drilled-out" pipe certainly isn't on all BPC valves.
