i replaced the tranny in 92 9000T 5spd (153K) last week. even though my friend runs an indy Saab shop, a reman from saab at their cost ($1550) and a reduced labor cost still came out to $2100 inc tax. it was a no-brainer for me as i've addressed just about every common trouble spot mentioned on this board (TCS, timing chain, head gasket, mounts, SRS) in the 30K miles i've owned the car...
if the decision were between paying $3K+, doing it myself on my back or junking it, i'd probably sell it for parts. i did the clutch myself a little while back and even with access to a shop and pro tools, i still managed to learn some new swear words...
