Not that I'm trying to get into this debate, but I thought I'd add my .00002 cents if it's worth anything to anyone. Here goes... My father always used pure antifreeze (Prestone or Peak, I don't remember), no water added at all, in his car ('74 Chevy Impala) from the very first servicing. he bought the car brand new in '74 and did all the maintenance on it religiously. To make a long story short, the car was given to my sister who neglected periodic maintenance and eventually the car malfunctioned. I happened to be home on leave at the time (USAF) and repaired her car for her. I was absolutely amazed at what I saw when I disconnected the radiator hose and looked inside the radiator and in the thermostat housing. Everything looked perfectly new! The aluminum was bright and shiny as well as the brass (or whatever the radiator's made of) and that car (which had air-conditioning) NEVER had a cooling system problem up to the day my sister wrapped it around a tree at just over 170,000 miles. My father's Ford Mustang ('73 which he also bought new) has a similar story but he sold it at around 60,000 miles and bought a Chevy pickup truck, he hated Fords afterwards (mechanical problems). I was tempted to run straight antifreeze in my '85 SAAB 900 turbo when I bought it new, but resisted. I often wonder what would've happened if I did.
btw, The reason I removed the radiator hose was to get to the timing cover/chain.
