Been away for a week in Devon anyway...
Autoglass did their bit again on 1st August. This time 2 fitters came, they removed the winscreen - slightly damaging 1 of the plastic trim bits in the process - I've also notices a small scratch on the inside of the windscreen bottom right corner area. They then cleaned up the glass, used a pair of pliers to re-shape the plastic trim and re-fitted the existing glass, plastic trim, clips and rubber surround. The 'window not quite closed noise' has gone - to be replaced by a 'mouth-organ played really badly' noise at motorway speeds with a crosswind/into a headwind. I'm confident that this noise can be reproduced simply by driving at sufficient speed.
So I'm still not entirely happy at the moment.
Re: costs, I've been quoted £78-50 to remove and re-fit, circa £110 for original SAAB trim parts (2 plastic bits, 2 clips and rubber surround) and £118-52 for the windscreen all plus VAT.
My understanding is that the rubber surround should be easy to remove and re-fit, but that the two-part plastic 'track' or 'cage' usually gets at least partly glued in place and so the windscreen must be removed to replace these parts. I have been told that the trim is purely for appearance and does not form any part of the seal.
TTFN I'm off to Autoglass - wish me luck.
