There is a connector in the back side of the oil sump that collects dirt and oil. Cleaning the connector might help.
As hmr wrote the sensor it is a simple float. The float might be defective, but I'd bet that the magnetic micro switch is the one to blame if the cleaning of the connector doesn't help.
It's easy to take off the sensor from the sump. Those magnetic relays a.k.a. Reed relays are available in electronics shops (and they are cheap). Then you need some soldering skills to change it.
Easiest way to put the light off is to disconnect the connector.
Be careful with the sensor, not to drop it from your hands,,, it's quite fragile (done that... ;-)
