The tensioner may indeed be at fault, but I just replaced a fairly new Continental belt that kept trying to jump the AC pulley. After having the AC on where I might be pulling higher than cruising revs, I would find the belt two grooves off the compressor pulley. I also thought that I could press the belt down fairly easily (like checking tension on the old V-belts) so I thought it was the tensioner until I noticed that when pressing down on the belt I didn't get alot of tensioner movement. I thought I'd give a different belt a try so replaced the Continental with a "Power Torque" (Gates?) that is available at Canadian Tire. Works great. It does not flex as much when pushed down and has made no attempt to jump the pulleys. I also noticed that the Power Torque was just a wee bit shorter in length (both belts were not bought on stated length but by recommended part number for 9Ks).
